Campaign Kick-Off 2014 Plane Pull was a huge success!
UNITED WAY KW KICKS OFF 2014 ‘$5 MILLION PLUS’ CAMPAIGN
United Way KW kicks off the 2014 campaign season with a
Plane Pull Challenge and a call to give!
“$5 million and then some” is the 2014 campaign goal announced by CEO Jan Varner at United Way KW’s 2014 Campaign Kick-off held at the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre on Friday September 26.
Over 100 participants and spectators took part in the event which started with a plane pull activity and ended with the goal reveal, through the window of the ‘Mako Shark’ T33 airplane.
“I am honoured to be invited by United Way KW to assist with the 2014 fundraising campaign. I’m looking forward to the challenge and am hoping we can make this the best campaign ever” said Amanda Knapp, investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities and United Way KW’s 2014 Campaign Champion.
Knapp spoke about her personal experience saying that the “feeling of desperation will never leave me.”
Knapp also helped officially launch the campaign by presenting her donation cheque to Varner. “Now that I’m able, I give. I want to make sure my neighbours, and others in this community, feel that they are not alone, that they can succeed, that they can pursue their dreams, just like I did.”
Varner told event attendees that right now, it’s about giving and asked for a 6% increase in donations to help sustain current work being done by the organization. “We need to reach the goal, and then some. That ‘and then some’ will help build self-confidence in children, and put food on the table for the working poor.” Help us to do the work we’ve been asked to, and then some.”
