People are healthier, stronger and more active when they live in a neighbourhood that is supportive, safe and vibrant.
Your neighbourhood belongs to you. United Way understands this. We also know that neighbourhoods sometimes need help getting started, help finding leaders, need help setting a direction. We’re here to help!
We believe this happens when residents take ownership of their neighbourhood, and work together to effect change.
“Every single person has capabilities, abilities and gifts. Living a good life depends on whether those capabilities can be used, abilities expressed and gifts given. If they are, the person will be valued, feel powerful and well-connected to the people around them. And the community around the person will be more powerful because of the contribution the person is making.”
– John P. Kretzmann and John L. McKnight
Did you know that money is available to fund neighbourhood projects?
Through our partnership, the City of Kitchener and the City of Waterloo are providing matching grants to neighbourhood groups. These one-time grants up to $5000 can go toward neighbourhood beautification, the building of neighbourhood relationships or improving community safety, accessibility, and/or mobility.
